4. Bleak House – Charles Dickens (on a related note, there is currently an exhibition of wedding fashion at Rippon Lea House, Elsternwick, which includes one of Gillian Anderson’s dresses from the recent BBC adaptation of Great Expectations)

  1. Pride and Prejudice made my list, but Animal Farm was also very good. I haven’t read Vanity Fear but I love the title–so intriguing without even opening the book.
