Ten Characters Who Are Fellow Book Nerds

A nice easy topic this week, although I am going to cheat and throw in some television characters because a) I’m lazy and b) I like them. Prompt, as always, from The Broke and the Bookish.

toptentuesday

1. Rathven  Finch by Jeff Vandermeer

People came to Rathven for information from the past. They came to her if they’d lost the thread. They came to her to talk. Why? Finch, like most people, had books, but Rathven had a library.

2. Belle – Once Upon A Time

3. Mary Bennet – Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

What say you, Mary? For you are a young lady of deep reflection, I know, and read great books and make extracts.

4. Haelwyn – The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde

‘Take no heed of her,’ explained Jones apologetically. ‘She reads a lot of books.’

5. The Librarian – Discworld by Terry Pratchett

“The Librarian is a member of the Librarians of Time and Space, and has the understanding of the power of L-Space, and has used these powers to appear at certain times to ensure the safety of particular books, bringing them home to his precious Library at UU”. (from the Discworld Wiki)

6. Hermione Granger – Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

7. Lord Sepulchrave – Gormenghast by Mervyn Peake

It was not possible for him [Lord Sepulchrave] to visit his library as often as he wished, for the calls made upon him by the endless ceremonials which were his exacting duty to perform robbed him for many hours each day of his only pleasure – books (from the chapter ‘The Library’).

8. Matilda – Matilda by Roald Dahl

9. Sterling Archer – Archer

And a supercut of a lot of the literary references in Archer is here.

10. Bernard Black – Black Books

EDIT:

+1. Chuck – Pushing Daisies

I can’t believe I forgot Chuck, so she can be the extra special +1

    • *high five* for excellent taste! I know Lizzie Bennet reads a lot but I always remember that quote where she says to Caroline Bingley that she is not “a great reader and takes pleasure in many things”, those are not the words of a true book nerd 😉

  2. Hahaha! Archer. I watched that show for the first time a few days ago and loved it. It’s the one where he becomes a pirate. I think he was running away from the agency or something.
